ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION

The region around Sveastranda Camping is full of exciting tourist attractions and experiences just waiting for you. Here is a list of activities and experiences you should see and do while you are here. Please have a look at the websites of the tourist offices around Mjøsa for more ideas: Gjøvik, Lillehammer and Hamar.

Skibladner

Skibladner is the world's oldest operational paddle steamer in regular traffic, and was built in the period between 1854-1856. As a guest at Sveastranda, you get special rates on evening departures Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Travel 2 for 1!

Gjøvik Klatrepark
Gjøvik Klatrepark

Gjøvik Klatrepark is a new climbing park in Gjøvik. Gjøvik Klatreparks climbing trails are adapted to all comfort zones, for those who enjoy it better at ground level and those who thrive best in the heights. Perhaps you also dare to challenge yourself? The longest zip line is 240 meters long, offering both speed, adrenaline and great views of the entire Øverby.

Gjøvik Olympic Cavern Hall
Gjøvik Olympic Cavern Hall

Gjøvik The Olympic Cavern Hall was built to house ice hockey matches during the seventeenth Olympic Winter Games in 1994. The  hall is world's largest cavern hall for public use. Here are concerts, fairs and various sports events organized.

Vitensenteret Science Museum

Vitensenteret Science Museum in Gjøvik is a place where children, young people and adults can explore activities and experiments related to science, technology and mathematics. All playful and curious children, adolescents and adults between 0 and 100 are welcome.

Lekeland

Lekeland is a place where children can play in a safe environment, while the adults can enjoy themselves in the cafe or play with the children in the playgrounds.

FASTLAND - FREE AND FUN

A free to use outdoor swimming pool and recreational area. Fastland is open the entire summer and provides free family fun, just 10 minutes to walk from downtown Gjøvik.

Museums

Visit cultural history museums and open-air areas: Gjøvik farm, Eikunet, Stenberg on Toten and Mjøssamlingene in Minnesund.

Maihaugen
Maihaugen Open-Air Museum

Maihaugen is an open-air museum with 200 buildings, exhibitions, eateries and experiences for people of all ages. It exhibits traditions and way of life in Norway back in the older days. The museum is open all year, but in the summer season, more activities happen. Maihaugen is Norway's largest museum outside Oslo.

Lillehammer Olympiapark

Visit Lysgårdbakken! Take the elevator up to the top of the hill and enjoy the stunning view of Lillehammer and Mjøsa.

Bobsleigh track
Bobsleigh Track

This is the only bobsleigh track in Scandinavia. If yuo areready for a real challenge, you are welcome to the track, child or adult. Children at 10 years old, who are with a parent, can join the fun.  In winter you can choose between bobraft, taxi bob and skeleton and in the summer you can experience a fast-paced trip with a bobsleigh on wheels. The bobsleigh tracks is located at Hunderfossen, 15 km north of Lillehammer city center.
